Sustainable Investment: the giant awakes

With the health of the rock we call home creaking at the seams investors are increasingly having to face the fact that financial markets and the state of the planet are integrally connected. The warning signs have been there for decades of course. Indeed the first funds that considered what we then called ‘ethical’ issues were launched well over three decades ago, but things are different now. Julia was first involved in this area in 1991 and will talk you though the many different but related fund variations - including ESG, responsible ownership and impact investment – focusing on why sustainability is now far too big to ignore.

Investing Responsibly for Income

The Baillie Gifford Responsible Global Equity Income Fund was the first fund of its type in the Global Equity Income sector. Clients’ needs are everchanging and multifaceted which can be a balancing act for advisors. We will explain how through good active management, income and responsible investing need not be mutually exclusive client outcomes. We will draw upon our own experience of engaging with companies and investing in line with the principles embodied in the United Nations Global Compact.

Pictet Asset Management Fund: Pictet-Global Environmental Opportunities

Dr Marc-Olivier Buffle, Senior Product Specialist

Performance that does not have to cost the planet

Environmental awareness is now widespread amongst consumers, governments and the private sector. Their converging interests, technological advances and increased health concerns, are underpinning a global drive to safeguard the world’s natural resources. The Pictet-Global Environmental Opportunities fund is an unconstrained global equity fund which invests in firms that help solve environmental challenges. We believe that this should lead to attractive capital gains while making a positive contribution towards a more sustainable world.
